When we think of Philadelphia, our thoughts go promptly to the city skyline, historic buildings, the Liberty Bell, the Declaration of Independence, and Rocky Balboa running up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. But there's more to this city of 1.6 million, and if you plan to move here and build or remodel your home in Philly, you'll quickly realize the depth and opportunities for enjoying this city.

Philadelphia offers a unique setting for a blend of present modern-day life and constant reminders of our historic city. Tradition, stories, and art are pervasive in most areas of Philly. Walking through downtown, you'll spot murals and mosaics adorning the sides of residences and warehouses. Many of the 300-year-old brick buildings have their own stories to tell, with historical markers on the curb. Culture is well-established in Philly, as evidenced by the array of art galleries, restaurants, music venues and theaters, and museums.

Many American cities invest heavily to develop their collective culture to become "extraordinary." Philadelphia has long been culturally exceptional, largely because of its place in the nation's history, adherence to tradition, mixed economy, geography, central location, and its tendency to go in its own direction, regardless of national patterns regularly running the other way.

About Philadelphia, PA

Once the original capital of America, Philadelphia has a history advanced with culture, history, and symbolism. The city is a melting pot of different cultures and has amenities that only the city's heritage can give. It is the home to the Liberty Bell and the Declaration of Independence, the two tributes to the city's insurgency.

Broadly known as Philly, but formerly known as the City of Philadelphia, it is the biggest city in the territory of Pennsylvania. It is also called the 'City of Brotherly Love.' It is the 6th most populous city in the US, the fifth biggest city area by population in the US, the US's fourth-biggest consumer media market, and ranks 49th as the most populous city on the planet. There are about 1.5 million individuals in the city alone.

Long ago, the city was the second biggest in the British Empire after London. A marketable, educational, and culture enriched center, it was the mutual and geological center of the original 13 American colonies. Philadelphia contributed colossally to American history when Benjamin Franklin, in the 18th century, started the American Revolution and American Independence.

Dining in Philadelphia

Philly is known for much more than cheesesteaks (although they are delicious). Here are a few of our favorite restaurants around town:

1. Suraya
2. Friday Saturday Sunday
3. Vernick Food & Drink
4. Hiroki
5. Laurel

1. Suraya
Arak cocktails, Lebanese omelets, kouign-amann. Dining in Philly didn’t always look or taste like this, but thanks to Suraya, it does now. 1528 Frankford Avenue, Fishtown.

2. Friday Saturday Sunday
Friday Saturday Sunday's change from neighborhood milestone to one of the most polished, staggering city cafés has been finished for years, however it still never fails to amaze.

3. Vernick Food & Drink
Greg Vernick has two eateries, a coffee shop, and a wine shop to his name presently, yet this unique spot stays an unrivaled feature for his love of modern American cooking.

4. Hiroki
There are minutes at Hiroki that feel like mediation. There are also moments that feel practically alien — your mind unfit to process how some fish, a little rice, and a swipe of horseradish can taste so unadulterated and rich and complete. Supper at this indulgent omakase sushi bar is, truly, an ideal feast.

5. Laurel
With every menu item, Nick Elmi's stalwart becomes pretty much French, Asian, American, Mediterranean, Philadelphian. The one consistency? The talent that raises Laurel to the top level.
